Treat yourself to something special this vacation! Take to the back roads of Oahu on a fun, educational, and - let’s not forget - tasty culinary tour of Hawaii courtesy of Roberts Hawaii! Learn all about the history and culture of Hawaii and its people on this unique agricultural tour of the island!
First off, you’ll pass by Sumida Farm, the largest watercress-producing farm in Hawaii, as you make your way to the famous North Shore of Oahu. Along the way you’ll have the opportunity to try a malasada, a sugar-coated, doughnut-like Portuguese pastry that’s oh-so-popular with the locals.
After the malasadas, it’s time to visit historic Helemano Plantation. Tour the plantation grounds, home to a wide variety of fresh island fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs. Watch as one of the friendly plantation workers demonstrates the cutting of fresh pineapple then sample the “fruits” of his labor, literally!
After driving through Hale’iwa, Waimea, and Pupukea, your next stop is Kahuku Farms. There you’ll learn a bit more about the history of the local farming community, and, depending on the season, of course, you’ll get to try delicious farm-raised apple bananas and gold papayas before sitting down to a sumptuous meal featuring local ingredients straight from the farm!
The choice is yours – try the Pulehu Marinated Beef, served over a bed of “hapa” (“mixed”) rice and a side of fresh Kahuku greens tossed in a light, Lilikoi vinaigrette or for something a little lighter, how about a North Shore Tomato Salad featuring vine-ripened tomatoes from Oahu’s North Shore, fresh mozzarella and basil, and Kahuku Farms’ Lilikoi vinaigrette. Top it all off with a cool, refreshing papaya sorbet for dessert!
That’s not all! After lunch, you’ll drive through scenic Lai’e and Punalu’u before heading over to Waikane Tropical Farm where you can sample some of the more interesting flavors of macadamia nuts offered there. (Maui Onion/Garlic Macadamia Nuts, anyone?)
So the next time you’re in Hawaii, join Roberts Hawaii on a journey along the less-traveled back roads of Oahu, and sample some of the mouth-watering flavors of Hawaii – you’ll be glad you did!
