Designed by Dick Nugent & Associates, this appealingly lush, woodland course incorporates native trees and plants alongside striking, natural geographic features – lava tubes, cinder cones, and the like – and is one of only five courses in the state with Bentgrass greens and tees. Don’t be surprised if you encounter a wild pheasant or brightly plumed peacock or two. The course is home to a variety of native birdlife. The temperature stays fairly cool thanks to the higher elevations. Plus, it’s Hawaii, so rest assured, the weather’s terrific year round.

Multiple tees ensure both beginners and advanced players alike will enjoy themselves at Makalei. Signature holes include numbers 4, 7, 8, and the pinnacle, the par-3 15th hole where you’ll be treated to a killer view of Maui’s majestic Haleakala some 90 miles away!
