One of two 18-hole championship courses at Maui’s Makena Golf Course, the North Course, designed by world-famous course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr., was built in 1993 and over the years has received numerous accolades including Golf Magazine’s “Silver Medal Award For Best Golf Resort” and a 4-star rating from Golf Digest. Home of the Hawaii State Open, the Makena North Golf Course offers terrific views of Haleakala, the south Maui coastline, the ocean, and the neighbor islands as well. In the winter months you might even catch sight of migrating humpback whales!

Designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings, this 6,567-yard, Par-72 course seems more like a nature walk than a golf course! While playing through the course, you’ll have a chance to admire native wili wili and kiawe trees, scenic ravines, streambeds, and natural Hawaiian lava rock walls that add to the challenge on this beautifully maintained course! Cart paths are carefully hidden from view, and holes are carefully positioned so that no other holes are visible besides the one you’re playing. In addition, the fairway intentionally slopes back towards the center to save time spent looking for lost balls! Signature holes include the Par-3 7th hole, the Par-4 13th (pictured above), and the breathtaking 14th hole, a long Par-5 with an impressive 200-foot drop in elevation between the tee and the green.
