Dolphins are one of the most precious treasures of the island of Lanai and can be seen just about every day playing in front of island hotels. Spinner dolphins entertain tourists with their antics and aerial behaviors. Watch as dolphins jump out of the ocean water, front first, and turn their bodies while ascending in the air. After reaching the utmost height, the dolphins return to the ocean, landing on their sides. Count as the dolphins spin out of the water, for they can usually make two to five spins in one jump. Dolphins also have other tricks up their sleeves, or should I say fins, that will entertain you! Watch for the playful stunts of tail slapping, nose-outs, flips, salmon leaps, head slaps, and back and side slaps. Which one will be your favorite trick! Dolphins are playful, but very intelligent mammals.
Humpback Whales are another fascinating feature of the Lanai Dolphin Adventure and Maui Adventure Cruises. You will see the whales only during the winter season (December to April). Watch for Humpback whales off the shore of Lanai. Whales migrate from the frigid waters of Alaska to the warm tropical waters of Lanai and Maui to mate, give birth, and nurse their young. If you are in the right place, at the right time, you will see a new born calf swimming beside its mother. Calves are born without a sufficient amount of blubber; therefore, they need the warm tropical water to heat their bodies. These majestic mammals will sometimes entertain you as they breach out of the surface of the ocean and spray water from their blow hole. Other tropical sea creatures available to be viewed are green sea turtles, reef fish, and sometimes a manta ray. Begin your Maui Adventure Cruises with Kona coffee, passion orange juice, and ice water while you are checking in at Slip #11 at the Lahaina Harbor. Two snorkel destinations are chosen by the captain to provide the calmest and clearest water conditions. The Captain will provide: snorkel gear, safety tips, and professional instructions. Lunch will also be provided: turkey or veggie wraps, Maui chips, buttermilk dressing, granola bars, cookies, pineapple, unlimited sodas, juices, and bottled water.
